COVID brought an overwhelming ocean of emotions all at once. Losing my full-time job was one of the situations attached to this raging ocean of emotions. It hit me hard. I enjoyed my job, and it created financial comfort for me. I was struck by another wave when my husband lost his job in the event industry. The financial difficulty was real and threatened to drown us. We did everything within our power to subside the storm and make things okay.
The unknown of what was to come next was nerve-racking. Not having a steady income is never an easy challenge. Yet, the silver lining of it makes you appreciate all of the small things. The big question that crashed against each wave was, “what’s next?” For six months, I was rendered empty-handed when trying to find a job. It was hard to be hopeful. Yet, I found a way.
When I shifted my mind to be grateful for the things that I have and not focus on those things I don’t have, creativity started to pour out of me. During difficulties, I had to tell myself how to change, especially when something is happening in the world totally out of my control. My husband and I decided to combine our side businesses into Just Dream. We offer creative development, visionary consultation for events, photography, and videography at Just Dream. With our new direction in place, we were given the opportunity to show my artwork in a small Denver gallery, adding life to art by performing live projections. I came up with the series “Time to Fly” to make it known that you can still spread your wings and fly even in difficult times.
I encourage every woman out there to never give up. Do not stop believing that new possibilities are in front of you despite what the world is going through. Covid has changed so many of our lives and continues to do so. We need to keep fighting and know that the light is at the end of it all. I encourage you to be patient with yourself and with your surroundings. Never stop creating and sharing your talents with the world.
