I believe that right now in our new digital marketplace, there are wonderful opportunities for each of us to create change that is powerful enough alter the trajectory of history. Not just for ourselves, but also for our families, communities, and even throughout the world.
We can do this by sharing wise stories digitally. In the Wise eShout, we wisely and widely ‘shout’ wise stories that bring good inspiration and motivation into people’s lives via their laptops and phones.
As Founder and CEO of The Wise Boutique, I believe that the best story to begin with is one about my journey to develop and create it. But, do NOT expect boring business background or terrifying technical details. You will not find them here.
As you read, you’ll discover that YOU are at the heart of this story. In fact, The Wise Boutique was made with love for you as well your beloved.
Before I continue, please allow me to first introduce myself with a short, super-summarized and sensitive story to explain who I am and why you should care.
MY SUPER-SUMMARIZED & SENSITIVE STORY
Not too long ago I was running down the cobbled canalled streets of Amsterdam in a tight navy business suit in the rain to catch a train… to an important client dinner while thinking my young daughters were safe at home. I had streaked mascara, twisted ankles, even leaked underpants.
- I used to thrive in my work. I audited and advised massive global conglomerates on financial matters.
- On this night, I spent extra time on my hair and make-up to ‘fit the corporate image’ and then I dutifully endured the downpour to meet the team in a fancy restaurant.
- Taxis were already extinct, and there were no Ubers available – so I hiked it… in fabulous lux high heels on slippery stones. And, since giving birth I’ve had to overcome bladder issues… especially when running and under stress.
So, by the time I read the text from my little girl about the nanny leaving them at home alone, I was already a complete wreck!
- A picture of me might have been funny with frizzled hair, smeared makeup, and limping. But, I had ruined my best suit and I was in serious pain! That night, while weeping on the way home, I resolved to change things.
I worked many years with all my heart and strength doing everything I thought I had to… like long intense days in an office fighting for promotions, while not seeing my family or friends. Neglecting my body. Continually re-organizing schedules to ‘make time’ for kids, husband, school, volunteer positions with more responsibilities, playdates, house repairs, car repairs, the dog peed in the house, and NO sleep!
- I was just exhausted! My swollen feet hurt. My back was hunching, and my hair was turning grey.
- WAY worse was that my heart was breaking each time I missed field hockey games or piano rehearsals. And, I missed hugging my kids at night.
- So, that night- I was DONE! I just stopped working.
- And then…POOF! my source of income was gone.
- And then… YIKES! :=( My career dreams were gone forever!
- I seriously questioned the worth of all the many years of perfect grades, serious study, and super-hard work in an office.
And, even though I used to advise massive global conglomerates on their complicated problems, I did not have wise or perfect solutions to NAVIGATE my own life in consideration of my values and for purposes of achieving my own dreams. This is because those wise navigation solutions were not invented yet.
I did a painful re-set: “HEY! HOW DID I EVEN GET HERE?!”
How did I find myself in Holland with kids and far too many responsibilities when I distinctly remembered my plan just a few years earlier was to remain a single career woman in New York City- indefinitely?
Oh yeah… I remember staring out of the window of a plane…
Smoke was still billowing from the rubble of what used to be The World Trade Center Twin Towers. From the window of the plane, somehow, I felt safe because I was leaving the smolders behind, but that morning my heart was racing and my life as I knew it was gone. Shattered. Literally.
I began an epic journey frantically looking to find meaning in life and my purpose in it. I probably didn’t have to travel as far as Transylvania Romania, but I did.
In these alps, still to this day, people barter for eggs or wheat to bake bread. They trade with fresh sheep-cheese covered in tree bark, and generously share plenty of plum wine. Villages function with one shepherd to care for all the village people’s sheep. And, simple pleasures come from fresh clean air, sunshine, and cheerful-souls inspired with hopes for what the future will bring. At the time, the country had just emerged from the torrents of a dark and brutal dictator to join the European Union and there was tremendous hope.
In this land, I didn’t speak the language. So while I was there, I looked to the internet for information and inspiration. Way-back-then is when I discovered the power that stories have to transform lives (especially when shared digitally!).
And, this is what we are doing here in the Wise eShout newsletter: digitally sharing wisdom in stories to bring good into your life and the lives of those around you!
THE WIISE BOUTIQUE PAST
Wise Stories Inform & Inspire
To be completely clear, I was NOT looking for a husband in Romania, but I found a dashing Dutch man there and, yes… one thing led to another. We delightfully chose for children.
When my daughters were very young, I felt a deep sense of urgency to share stories with them to help them understand some of the wisdom that I had learned and earned over all the years about what was most important to me in life… like loving people and how to care for our bodies and our earth. I began to teach them how to discover what their own unique purpose is, and how to live in a way that honors this.
One day, when my youngest daughter was merely five, she wisely suggested that we write a book together to include all the stories and information that I wanted them to know. She sweetly asked for the book to include pictures so that she could understand the concepts better. As you journey inside The Wise Boutique, it may be helpful to imagine that it is like a book of stories with illustrations to inform and inspire. And, it includes products and services that I would want my beloved family and best friends to know about and have access to.
Wisely Search With Purpose
Early-on in our marriage, and while the children were very young, we lived in different countries where we didn’t speak the language. It was not easy for me to walk-out out and shop so I searched online to find and supply much of our family’s needs.
Finding wise and trustworthy information of different sorts, stories that were not only inspiring but also safe and true, or simply getting good or great stuff each time I searched online, was quite often an adventure without a happy ending.
This is because I was attempting to find what I wanted and knew I needed super-fast! You see, I wanted to navigate my life and the lives of my children based OUR sought-out purpose NOT someone else’s alternative purpose of marketing to us.
Over the years, I noticed that I was being bombarded more and more with all kinds of stuff that was ‘not good for me’ or my kids. I realized that I needed a solution for seeking wisdom in the form of inspiration and information, including products and services, based on MY purpose if I ever wanted to achieve it.
THE WIISE BOUTIQUE PRESENT

Inspiration for The Wise Boutique was further ignited as I watched my little girls cuddling with their Dad one night during story time. They were rolling in bed as they giggled uncontrollably. Something sparked in me just then, and I realized that I could and should do something that would help my daughters to reach their highest potential and fulfill their unique purpose in life (a.k.a. Calling or Ikigai). Some people call this, “reaching your dreams.”
Because I was rearing my girls while I was developing and creating The Wise Boutique, I had them on my mind continually as I was building it. In the end, I built-into The Wise Boutique what I wanted for my girls to have to fulfill their purpose as they lived-out their lives.
A Journey To Fulfill Our Purpose
To reach our dreams, we can choose to embark on a journey to discover and achieve our unique purpose. Along the way, we find wisdom in the form of wise, honest and trustworthy inspiration and information to guide and direct us. We use this wisdom to empower and equip ourselves with what we need to fulfill this purpose.
In doing this, we grow in wisdom. I call this becoming ’empowered in our whole person’. To better explain what I mean by empowered in our whole person, I separate the state of being empowered into three distinct, but integrated pillars.
